…learning design starts with the learner.

Learners come with prior knowledge. Prior knowledge influences how people filter and interpret information, and helps us build a scaffold for new learning (Ambrose, et. al, 2010.) What do they already know? How can we honor the knowledge your staff brings to the table? How can we use this knowledge to our advantage? Before designing, I collect preliminary data to better understand your organization and will use this data to activate prior knowledge.

I believe…

…effective learning connects to the real world.

“Why are we doing this again?” We’ve all sat through training and asked ourselves this question. I work with you to design relevant learning with clear connections to your work environment. We’ll define clear goals and objectives and define strategies that will support these goals and objectives.

…effective learning happens in a welcoming environment.

Learning can only begin when participants feel safe and welcome. People learn best when they see themselves (and their own experiences) represented in learning materials. I strive to follow the philosophies of anti-bias education (Learning for Justice, 2021) as I work with you to design training. I will help you develop differentiated instruction and tools to analyze learning resources for bias.
